Our Commitment
The Commercial Street Community Improvement District (CID) wants everyone to be able to use historiccstreet.org, including people with disabilities. We are actively working to improve the accessibility and usability of this website.
Our Standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This website is partially conformant, which means some content does not yet fully meet this standard.
What We Have Done
- Added text descriptions (alt text) to images across the site, including business logos, event graphics, and the district map
- Organized each page under a single main heading so screen reader users can navigate by section
- Labeled our menu, search, and panel-close buttons for screen readers
- Labeled every field on our contact form
- Added a “Skip to content” link so keyboard users can bypass the menu
- Reduced animation for visitors who turn on the “reduce motion” setting on their device
- Set the site language so screen readers use the correct pronunciation
Known Issues We Are Working On
- Some text colors do not yet have enough contrast against their backgrounds. We are updating our color palette to fix this.
- Live RailCam video and some business information come from outside services that we do not fully control.
