The Commercial Street community played a special role in bringing one of Springfield’s Route 66 Centennial sculptures to life.

When C-Street resident and artist Yves “Hu” Jerome began work on his Springfield 66 sculpture, Rerouted: From Mother Road to Motherboard, the Commercial Club of Springfield graciously opened the foyer of the historic Commercial Club building to serve as his temporary studio.

There, visitors and members of the C-Street community had the unique opportunity to see the sculpture take shape as Hu transformed the Route 66 shield into a bold celebration of Springfield’s history, creativity, and connection to the future.

Today, Rerouted: From Mother Road to Motherboard can be found at the Frisco Highline Trailhead on West Kearney Street, where it welcomes cyclists, pedestrians,  and visitors.

We are grateful to the Commercial Club and to the many C-Street stakeholders and community members who recognized the importance of this project and supported Hu throughout the process. Public art projects like Springfield 66 are made possible not only by the artists who create them, but by communities willing to provide space, encouragement, resources, and enthusiasm along the way.

We are proud that C-Street could be part of that story—and especially proud to have the work of one of our own residents represented in the Springfield 66 sculpture series.
